A mere five months into 2011 and we here at Two Bibliomaniacs are already feeling restless. Not a life altering type of restlessness, but more like a stubborn rash on the back of your knee kind of irritation. While applying our metaphorical ointment, it hit us. We need another reading challenge. Nay. We need to host another reading challenge. Nay. Actually that’s it....
Introducing the 2011 BOOKS TO MOVIES CHALLENGE!!!
The name is pretty much self-explanatory (and hopefully original). We’ve decided to merge our two favorite pastimes (beside sleep and inactivity). The rules are SIMPLE. Read a book. Watch the movie. Both milestones must be completed in order to receive full marks. There are 4 levels of participation to choose from.
Straight to Video – Read 2 books and view the film adaptations.
Limited Release – Read 4 books and view the film adaptations.
Blockbuster – Read 6 books and view the film adaptations.
Oscar Buzz – Read 8 books and view the film adaptations.
The challenge begins June 1st and will finish December 31st. Anyone can participate and blog-less readers can sign up in the comments section of this post. Everyone else, make the Linky as full as possible. All books are fair game although all movies must be produced by a semi-reputable film company (no backyard interpretations of Harry Potter).

I am generally not a "book to movie" fan... I am one of those people you mentioned in your vlog (thats right this week you had 4 views!) who likes to complain about the movie adaptation... but I am going to "challenge" myself (haha!) to find one that I like.
ReplyDeleteI had already been planning on doing something like this so I'm definitely in. Like Bonnie, I often find myself not liking the movie adaptation but I've found several films based on books that I really like. We'll see how this goes.
ReplyDeleteGREAT idea! Not that I need to sign up for any more challenges, but I'm in!! :o)
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't already, you should submit this challenge to be listed at novelchallenges.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThis is my first challenge as I've only started my blog! I'm looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteI am just wondering, How do I get the Books to Movies Challenge button on my Blog side bar? Excuse my ignorance but I'm new to blogging! Is there a HTML code I can use?
ReplyDeleteLucy
Can I choose what books and films I use or is there a set list that I need to use?
ReplyDeleteMelissa,
ReplyDeleteThe world of books and movies is at your disposal! Choose whatever combination you want.
Hey, thanks for the advice. I forgot I could just add a gadget, so much easier. yes Oscar buzz is ambitious but I'm a student 3 days aways from finishing University so I'll have plenty of time!
ReplyDeleteI'm having major issue shortening my list to just 8 books! I thought this'd be an easy way to move some of the books that'd been on my TBR list for awhile up to the top but somehow most of my TBR books have films made about them or will have one released sometime over the next 6 months! Aghhhh!
ReplyDeleteI'm another one who usually shouts at the screen "That's wrong! The book wasn't like that at all!" Maybe this challenge will help.
ReplyDeleteFound this challenge through the A Novel Challenge blog - can't wait to get started! (:
ReplyDeleteI read about this challenge through Sarah Reads Too Much and I thought I should join. This will be the first reading challenge I'll participate in and I can't wait to read (and watch) my first book.
ReplyDeleteWell as I am fairly new to this blogging lark, this is the first reading challenge I have done. Cant wait to get started.
ReplyDeleteSounds cool! I'm gonna participate :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm in. I haven't read anything in a while so I thought this will give me a teeny push. :P
ReplyDeleteFound this through Jai (Jai Days). :)
I'm going with the Straight to Video category! May step it up later as I see how it goes.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with the Straight to Video category and step-up when schedule permits. Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteI found you guys via A Novel Challenge, and I have to say, I love the concept of this challenge and am really looking forward to participating. Thanks for setting it up!
ReplyDeleteI'm doing Straight to Video - I am better at reading books than seeing the movie!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I missed this the first time round, but I am so in! I'm going to try for Oscar buzz, so wish me luck!
ReplyDeleteI'm in, what a great idea! I am going to try for Blockbuster.
ReplyDeleteI love comparing books and movies so I can't wait to do this challenge! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like fun! I've already started doing this on my blog with a feature called "Book vs Movie" I've only done it with Harry Potter so far because I'm reading all the books and watching all the movies for another challenge. It'll be fun to do this with other books!
ReplyDelete`Debz
Hopefully it's not too late to sign up. I would love to do the "Straight to Video". I already have Brideshead Revisited and Gone With the Wind on my DVR waiting for me to watch once I get around to reading the books. I can't wait to get started.
ReplyDeleteI'm a blog-less reader & I'm in for the challenge! I'm making a list & going for the Oscar Buzz category.
ReplyDeleteMelany,
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining! Can't wait to hear your progress.

ReplyDeleteHi Sandhya,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your interest, but I don't think the Books to Movies Challenge will live on in 2012...
