Book Hop, Follow Friday, and Read My Review - February 4

We’ve officially decided the best way to beat the winter blues is to add a 3rd meme to our Friday lineup! Thanks to A Trillian Books, Crazy-For-Books and Parajunkee’s View for hosting these fun events. On to the questions!

Read My Review
Read My Review – This week’s theme is Adventure / Travel, so with that in mind we’re left with no choice but to highlight master adventurer, classic car collector, scuba enthusiast, and all around good guy:  Dirk Pitt.

Book Hop
What are you currently reading and why?
Through circumstances beyond our control (most of them having to do with library due dates) we are currently juggling 3 books, all of which will move us closer to completing our 2011 challenges.  Atlas Shrugged is helping us during our daily commute, while The Gunslinger and The Unbearable Lightness of Being are providing us with plenty of evening entertainment.  Ulysses is helping us fall asleep...  The other Bibliomaniac is reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle.

Follow FridayWhat book are you currently “pushing”?
We’ve been very outspoken about the fact that book bullying in any form is wrong.  Pushing, tearing, marking, or neglecting should be punishable by... well, something not pleasant.  Join us in the fight against book pushing!  Is there any possible way this week’s question could have been referring to something completely different?  Nah.

Also, don’t forget to sign up for our Michael Palmer book giveaway – that’s right, a signed copy of his upcoming release – A Heartbeat Away!!!

  1. New follower through the Friday Follow here! I really like the tone of your blog. ;) I've clicked around, figure I'll stay a while.

I feel as if I've seen quite a few people reading or planning on reading The Gunslinger recently. Every one pushes The Dark Tower closer to the top of my 'to re-read' list.

    Happy Friday!

  4. As for book pushing, I sadly know exactly what you mean. It saddens my heart when I go into a bookstore, library, or even MY OWN HOME and see someone pushing a book. Most don't even think about it. They might be innocently shelving the book, or moving it out the way. I want to scream and yell! Books should be cradled and loving shelved. I am currently trying to devise some type of book harness. Mayhaps a contraption consisting of a down pillow and butterfly wings? Obviously, I'm still in the planning stages.

I know my name is misleading. Just read it in an incredulous tone. That helps.

  7. As it says on Parajunkee's blog, book "pushing" means that you're trying to get somebody to read a book. Not bully it.

  8. LOL! Ulysses is having the same effect on me as well. I really want to go read chapter 3 but I know that as soon as I pick up the book my eyes will get heavy. Enjoy the reading!

  9. Thanks for stopping by my blog! If you can get through Ulysses, you are doing much better than me. I've made it to chapter two about twelve times over the past few years, never any farther. :) Have a great weekend!

  10. Good answer! The answer on my book blog is a little embarassing; it’s a book that’s been sitting on my TBR pile for a year.

To my shame, I only opened the book because I remember it contained an Amazon gift card.

  11. After listening to my husband grumble his way through Ulysses, I decided life is too short. It's at the very bottom of my TBR pile and it's going to stay there.

  12. Yes, pushing, tearing, marking, and neglecting is wrong. But using the book as a weapon and hitting someone over the head with it is perfectly fine as long as the cover isn't damages. :-)
