The World of Book Blogging - Part 4

Book Blogger HopThat’s right people – it’s time for everyone’s favorite Friday social!  As always, thanks to Jennifer over at Crazy-For-Books for hosting the book party!  While you take a look at this week’s question, we’ll just be over here hanging out by the beverage table….
"What very popular and hyped book in the blogosphere did you NOT enjoy and how did you feel about posting your review?"
Owing to the fact that we’re very new to blogosphere this question is quite difficult to answer.  Instead, we’re going to put on the friendliest of smiles, promise not to raise your taxes, and respond with an answer slightly unrelated to the question.  A Tale of Two Cities was probably the most over-hyped book we ever read.  I know most readers will disagree and we might even lose a few followers, but there you have it.  For all its acclaim, we just couldn’t get into this book – and we love Dickens.  Great Expectations, Bleak House, David Coperfield, and Oliver Twist are some of our favorite books of all time.  In fact we’re currently participating in A Christmas Carol read-along and loving it (you should definitely read our groundbreaking analysis)! Sooooo, to answer the question in our own personal way, for us, A Tale of Two Cities was the worst of times….
Oh, and before you head off looking for another dance partner, please be aware that we’re very fond of followers on this blog – give us a try and we’ll be sure to return the favor!

  1. The one book that I found overhyped that I didn't think was so great was Twilight. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it as much as everyone else did.

  2. I rather liked A Tale of Two Cities, but I have to admit that it's my only Dickens experience thus far. Maybe I just didn't know any better.

  3. I didn't post a review of it nor am I entirely sure what the heck a "blogosphere" is, but I frickin' HATED The Da Vinci Code. Weak, illogical, and rife with a smugness unrivaled since A.C. Slater first strolled onto the set of Saved By The Bell. All in all, it was a stupid book that I traded in at the local used bookstore as quickly as I could so as to avoid the rush.

  6. It is always a must to be honest in reviews regardless of how they came out. With all the answers that I am seeing it really shows that everything depends on a person preference in how they will love or hate a book.

Dropping by from the hop. Visit me at Clandestine Sanctuary to know my answer. I am already a follower. :)

    Have a great weekend.

  7. Thanks for dropping by! I've never attempted A Tale of Two Cities although I have some other Dickens on the shelf that I'd like to get to some day.

  8. I just love your blog! And I love how you two are doing it together. I tried to talk my fiance into doing a spotlight review on the few books he does read and he wasn't into that idea. I think it's nice to get the male and female perspectives, since they can be so different at times (Twilight anyone?!) =)

  10. Thanks for stopping by. Don't worry too much about overhyped books. Sometimes they turn out to be good. I enjoyed the Millennium series and the Hunger Games series, and they had tons of hype.

I'm sorry to hear about A Tale of Two Cities. I'm reading Great Expectations right now and loving it. A Tale of Two Cities was the next Dickens on my TBR list.

  20. I have a couple of Dickens' books on my shelf in the category of "classics I have to read before I die" but I'm hoping I've got time yet...Still, now I feel very curious to read Tale of Two Cities to see what could inspire such loathing. Maybe for the Back to the Classics Challenge. I'm in it too!

  21. What the Dickens?! Gah. I've never been able to get into his books, so it's safe to say that I'd probably hate A Tale of Two Cities, too.

  22. Hi, visiting from the Blog Hop.
Reading A Tale of Two Cities in 9th grade put me off Dickens for most of my life. I'm reading A Christmas Carol now as well and might just have to revise my opinion!

  25. I've never read A Tale of Two Cities, but I bet there are plenty of people who had to read it for school or something and hated it.

  28. Hi!

We're your newest followers! I (Alexandria) do the Hop, and my book issue was with a book entitled Lover Awakened. But Moira loved it, so hopefully not too many people were bothered by my review.

Thanks for stopping by the Brazen Broads Book Bash!
